Swan dive!

2010 Bumper update28·10·10

So 2010 has been a fairly eventful year

January I got back from abroad - spent the anniversary with the other half then returned ready for a job interview which suddenly appeared out of the blue.

February saw me start at my new job as an AV technician for a college. Great perks with this but you have to work hard to earn it, with the recent news of redundancies from the government I am praying that I don't have a second redundancy before I'm 22/23.

February also saw the fiat suffer it's first power steering column failure - we replaced this at a large cost and all was good, for a while.

Fast forwarding to May I spent my birthday alone at home, I think, it wasn't very eventful but Tim may have visited for a fun beer filled weekend.

In May I started looking at getting a classic car as a project, due to my upbringing. A lot of work got put in to the research of early Scimitar GTEs.

August was the month a fair few changes happened, on the way to Curborough for the Scimitar sprint weekend I had a complete brake failure on the fiat due to water in the brake fluid, meaning I needed a complete new brake master cylinder. The same day I drove my first Scimitar SE5 around the paddock (thanks for this go to Dave Poole with his gorgeous 1969 model).

Shortly after I decided that enough was enough and I would be buying a scimitar for an every day car. No longer did I care that I wanted a 5 instead of a 5a, the scimitar would be an every day car so I didn't want something pristine anymore, priorities had changed.

September...

A week or so after a car came up on the market from an RSSOC member called Dave Speed - a 1975 Reliant Scimitar SE5a with SS exhaust, Fuel Tank and a few other improvements, as well as a fresh paint job. A short trip to rochdale the next weekend saw me buying it for a good price and delivery cost.

The car is not yet on the road as we have replaced the clutch, repaired the exhaust, worked on earths, done a compression test, ripped out bad carpetting in the boot, are about to do tappets and have been repairing a few bodges that the car has suffered previous to Dave Speed's ownership.

September also brought a visit from the other half for a few weeks, which went smoothly and was a lot of fun, although always upsetting to go back to the airport at the end.

A quick 30 minute doodle last night.
